Chapter 12- PART TWO “I have Type 1 Diabetes. So I have to check my blood sugar before I eat.” That caught me off guard. How could someone so perfect have a disease like diabetes? “You are so lucky you don’t have to deal with this.” I gave a nervous laugh and then looked back down at my food: he had no idea. After Nick pricked his finger and checked his blood sugar, he put his blue tester back in his pocket and started eating. Nick and I talked the whole night and I loved when he made me laugh. Laughing was what I needed that day because I forgot all about my doctor’s visit earlier. In fact I had forgotten I even had cancer because I wasn’t having symptoms at all. A boy was my cure. After a few hours Nick realized how late it was getting, so he got up from the table and called his driver. When he came back he sat down and smiled at me. “Better get you back before your parents start to worry.” Parents? I hadn’t heard that term in a while. “Yah my dad might flip out.” Nick laughed and then took my hand again. When we were outside, he led me to the SUV we came in and then opened the door for me once again. The ride home was actually a little awkward. We talked and laughed but it was like Nick wanted to do more than hold my hand. Oh geez. When we arrived at my house, Nick got out and walked me to my door.
