National Diabetes Week is 12-18 July 2009 and this year we are focusing on the differences between type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

The mission of JDRF is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research. Type 1 diabetes is a disease which strikes children and adults suddenly, but lasts a lifetime. It requires multiple injections of insulin daily or a continuous infusion of insulin through a pump. Insulin, however, is not a cure for diabetes, nor does it prevent its eventual and devastating complications which may include kidney failure, blindness, heart disease, stroke, amputation, and pregnancy complications. Building Upon Research Successes JDRF funding and leadership is associated with most major scientific breakthroughs in type 1 diabetes research to date. JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes

We will be participating in this year’s Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s (JDRF) walk for a cure. This is our second year walking. This video is about my four year old daughter, Olivia, who was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes on June 12th, 2007. This video shows what it is like to live with this disease. We love you Olivia. We hope for a cure.

Katelyn has Type 1 Juvenile Diabetes. This is her story. She’s hoping to raise money for JDRF and promote her team “Katelyn’s Kosmic Krusaders” for the 2009 “Walk to Cure Diabetes.”

This video is about Paige’s Story and the creation of Paige’s Posse to combat Type 1 Diabetes. The Posse has participated in 8 walks the past 6 years.
