From Orlando – According to a report presented that American Diabetes Association meeting, near normal blood sugar targets for type 2 diabetics does not delay organ damage. Researchers studied over 10000 adults with longstanding type 2 diabetes, finding that lowering their blood sugar levels to near normal did not affect their risk of developing damage to their eyes, kidneys, or nerves. From Italy – Women who drink while pregnant may affect semen quality of their sons, according to a report presented at the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology. Researchers followed nearly 12000 women and their sons born between 1984 and 1987. They found that sons of mothers who drank 4.5 or more drinks per week had one third lower sperm concentration that those not exposed to alcohol in the womb. And finally, from California – According to a report published in the Archives of Internal Medicine, end of life care may need improvement. Researchers studied nearly 500 adults who were hospitalized at least three days prior to dying. Though 70% of end of life goals were met, researchers did find that clinicians were not up to par in communicating with patients and their friends and family.
